Q. What is Medical Tourism?

Ans- Medical Tourism is the act of travelling abroad to receive medical or surgical care. It is also known as Medical Value Travel. Currently at least 28 countries on four continents cater to the international health travelers, with more than a million patients visiting hospitals and clinics each year in countries other than their own.

Q. Why should one go abroad for medical care?

Ans- The reasons would vary from country to country and could range from high cost, long waiting list in developed countries to non availability of quality care in less developed countries. Ans- Although every kind of treatment is available in India, most overseas patients prefer India for orthopedic surgeries (hip replacement, knee replacement ,spinal works, etc.) cardiovascular surgery (bypass grafting ,valve replacement ),cancer diagnosis and treatment, dental care ,cosmetic or restorative  surgery , fertility and in- vitro fertilization procedures and weight loss surgeries. They also choose Indian option for procedures which are not permitted in many countries such as stem cell therapies, bone marrow transplant etc.
